I am from a country whose citizens do not need a visa to enter Taiwan. Can I experience any problems at the border, while entering Taiwan?

You must meet certain requirements to enter Taiwan, even if you are not required a visa:

• The purpose of your trip to Taiwan must be plausible and comprehensible.
• Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay in Taiwan.
• You must be able to finance your own living and travel costs.
• You must hold a confirmed return flight to prove that you are prepared to leave Taiwan before the visa expires.
• You must not pose a threat to security or public order.

Will my fees be refunded if my visa is refused?

All fees are non-refundable and will not be refunded if your visa application is not successful.

Do I have to participate in the Embassy in person for applying for Taiwan visa?

It depends on your country of residence or the embassy/consulate/Visa Administrative Center’s rules and obligations. In some countries, sending your documents via courier is enough to the embassy/consulate/Visa Administrative Center. 

Can the Embassy/Consulate request me to provide additional documents or information?

The embassy may request you to provide additional documents or information, according to your personal situation, even after you have submitted all the required documents mentioned on the official website of the Embassy/Consulate/Visa Application Center.

Can I extend the validity of my Taiwan visa?

The validity of a visa can be extended in some exceptional and force-major cases. You can get information about that directly at the Migration Department of Taiwan.

What are the advantages of e-Visa?

An e-Visa can be obtained easily anywhere with an internet connection and it saves time that you would otherwise spend on visa applications at Taiwan missions or at the ports of entry into Taiwan (if you are eligible).

What documents do I need to prepare for an e-Visa application?

Applicants for an e-Visa must have their passport valid for at least six months when applying for an e-Visa. In accordance with the instructions of BOCA, ROC overseas missions may, depending on the applicant's nationality or the purpose of the visit, request by email that the applicant submit additional documents within a specific timeframe.

Do I need to enter Taiwan on the exact date specified in my application?

No. The validity of an e-Visa will start from the date specified in the approval form. The e-Visa is a single-entry visa valid for three months with a maximum stay of 30 days and cannot be extended. The holders of e-Visa may enter Taiwan at any time within the period of validity. Passengers of e-Visa for the "Project for Simplifying Visa Regulations for High-End Group Tourists from Southeast Asian Countries (Project Kuan-Hong)" must enter in accordance with the date of entry and follow any related regulations.

I don't have a credit card (MasterCard/Visa/JCB). Can I use other methods to pay for my application fee?

No. You can only make payment online by credit card (MasterCard/Visa/JCB). However, someone else can make the payment on your behalf. Please note that where the applicant and the holder of the credit card making the payment is not the same person, the holder of the credit card should consent to the payment and personally conduct the payment procedure.

If my itinerary changes, can I apply to change the date of my Taiwan e-Visa?

No. You need to re-apply and get a new e-Visa.

Do I need to obtain separate Taiwan e-Visas for the people who accompany me?

Yes. Every traveler must have his own e-Visa.

The information in my e-Visa does not fully match the information in my travel document. Can I use this e-Visa to enter Taiwan?

No. In this case, your e-Visa is invalid. You need to re-apply and get a new e-Visa. Otherwise, immigration officers at ports of entry will be denied entry to Taiwan or, subject to approval, will be instructed to apply for a visitor visa with additional visa fees.

I would like to stay in Taiwan for a longer period of time than the e-Visa permit. What am I supposed to do?

If you wish to stay in Taiwan longer than your e-Visa permit, you must go to the ROC overseas mission to apply for a visa that corresponds to the purpose and duration of your intended stay in Taiwan. Please note that e-Visas are granted only for tourism and business purposes, as well as for visiting relatives and attending international conferences or sporting events in Taiwan. If you intend to travel to Taiwan for other purposes, such as employment, study, family residence, or Mandarin language courses, you must submit a request for a related visa to the ROC overseas mission.

I have made my request. When am I going to get my Taiwan e-Visa?

Once your application has been approved, an electronic notice containing a webpage link will be sent to you to download and print your e-Visa. You are required to submit this e-Visa to the Immigration Checkpoint for verification by the National Immigration Agency upon arrival in Taiwan.

I am notified by the visa issuing system that I need to submit additional documents for my e-Visa application. What am I supposed to do?

You should submit additional documents to the designated ROC overseas mission by e-mail before the specified deadline.

Do I need an e-Visa if I'm on a cruise ship?

Under the Temporary Entry Permit Regulations for Foreigners, as of 29 April 2014, foreign nationals from countries not eligible for visa waiver privileges arriving in Taiwan on cruise ships may obtain special temporary entry permits once the approval has been granted by the related immigration authorities.

My child has been included in my passport. Do I need to submit a separate e-Visa application to my child?

Yes. When submitting an application for your child, please use your child's ID and passport information.

Do I need to get an e-Visa if I don't leave the international transit area at the Taiwan airport?

No. You do not need to apply for an e-Visa unless you leave the Taiwan International Transit Area.

Can I apply for a family or a group e-Visa?

Our visa application system does not accept e-Visa family or group applications.

What does DOMESTIC ID No. and DOMESTIC KTP No. mean?

Identification card number for foreign applicants from home country.

How can I save my application if I need to stop in the middle of the application and go back later?

The system will automatically save it during the process while filling in the application form. Please remember the TEMPORARY NO. located at the top of your computer screen and re-filling this temporary number to search for your preview application file. If you can't save that TEMPORARY NO, please fill a new application form again.

I can't continue with an online application, is there a time limit to fill in each page of the application form?

Each page of the application will only last 30 minutes. If you need more than 30 minutes to fill in on one page, this process will be terminated automatically. As a result, the applicant must return to the home page, choose EDIT and log in with the temporary number to continue filling out the application form.

I have completed my online application form, but I don't have a printer. What can I do about it?

Please save the generated PDF application file and use another computer and printer to complete the printout process.

I have also completed the application form to obtain the application number, but can I not print it out?

If you find yourself in the following situation:

(1) Please check if your computer has already installed Acrobat Reader version 8.0 above the software version or the latest version of software related to the PDF reader.

(2) Or download it in a minimized window.

Should I bring my entire print out application form to the R.O.C. Overseas Mission within a certain time limit?

Please bring your entire application form to our designated R.O.C Overseas Mission (Working Days) after a successful online application has been submitted, the system will generate an application number and this visa application must be submitted within 30 days.
